Hi all,
this is a warning to all motorcyclists to ALWAYS watch out for other cars, especially when
they turn. It is a resonse to Bruce Clarks „pretty quiet" post, but I'll put it here as a post
and not an answer so that everyone else can see it.
Last night my girlfriend and I came home from a lake near our hometown. We got hit by
a big damn motorhome. I absolutely cannot understand how this could have happened.
The road was straight and wide, it was still light, he had the sun in his back. He was sitting
pretty high in his motorhome and I had my lights on, he MUST have seen us. I had another
motorcycle in front of me followed by 2 other cars, then came we. The first motorcycle was
a drivers ed, followed by the drivers ed car, so we were not very fast. The motorhome was
on the oncoming lane, wanting to turn left and therefore cross our side of the road. He let
the motorcycle and the 2 other cars pass when all of a sudden he turned right right in front of us. I had no chance, I tryed to avoid contact by turning right but we got hit on the rear left side.
My girlfriend got hit on the knee and the left passenger footpeg was bend backwards pretty
much. I managed to stop the bike without falling over, so the damage was not as bad. The
knee is o.k., and I thought a bend footpeg is not much of a damage so we didn't call the police. But now I'm concerned about the damage that could not be seen.
Could it be that the rear suspension is disalligned by the hit? Should I have this checked?
After all it could only be a fragment, but with a great cause. We rode home again without
any trouble, but when I look at the belt now it seems a little worn out on the side. Please let me know if there is any chance to check a probable damage here by yourself or if it's better
to have this checked by a Suzuki dealer.
Safe riding to all,
Alfred
